Carmon has, of late, been posting various thoughts on community, church relationships and those types of topics. Not as a real direct thing, but they kind of go along with where my mind has been lately and get me to thinking about our church, how we happened to find ourselves there, and the difference it has made in us over the last-is it almost 4?-years.

It seemed like for so long we wandered in the vast evangelical church wasteland. We were always the "odd couple" it seemed. We homeschooled, had lots of children, and most noticeably, didn't take said children to Sunday School or Childrens' Church. That was a biggie. These were very hard years. At one of our churches we went to we had one other family that we felt we had some things in common with and they soon left the church and decided to 'home church' because the church we were in was "just getting too worldly" (In their words). But we always felt that leaving church entirely was not an option for us.

In the end we were going to a rather large church. We had to get up at 5:30 in order to get everyone ready and be at church by 8:00. (we had to go to the earliest service because it was the only one we could all fit in a pew together and not feel guilty about taking up too much room.) By 10:30 we were home. It felt like it didn't even happen. I knew church should be something more, but what? How to do it?

I remember one rainy day walking across the parking lot of a grocery store, praying. I said "Lord, I can teach my children about you, I can teach them Your word, but I cannot teach them about Your church. And I don't know what to do."

Well that's where I'll leave it for tonight. Gotta finish dinner. Tortilla and chicken soup, baked potatoes and salad. What are ya'all having?

We had make it yourself burritos-as in; mama fries hamburger, sets out grated cheese, heats up refried beans, sets out sour cream and salsa, heats tortilla wraps in microwave, sets all ingredients on the table and then calls it good!

Hi Kerri...hope you are feeling better! Missed sitting across from you at lunch on SUN.

It's sounds like you are starting a several part blog....can't wait to hear more. I think you guys told us this story when you came over that afternoon, but I can't remember it all so I am staying tuned for part 2!

We had swiss steak and carrots from the crockpot and then I made some mashed potatoes to go with. Added some bread rolls...and dinner was served! It is an easy crockpot recipe that I use often as it only needs several ingredients and makes it's own gravy! YUM!

Hi Kerri,

I, too, can't wait to hear more. We've been on a similar journey, and are so grateful for where the Lord has brought us.

Let's see...tonight we had 40 Cloves of Garlic Chicken with fruit and sourdough bread to sop up the delicious creamy-wine sauce.

There's a reason for the garlic. Well, for one thing, it's yummy. But also, Erik is getting ready for his 4th of July fireworks show on Wednesday (you'll remember that he's PapaPyro), and the mosquitos usually eat him alive. So he's requested as much garlic this week as I can possibly fill him with, in the hopes that the yucky critters will be driven away by the garlic.

Did I mention that the recipe is just delicious anyway?! (Like I needed another reason to make it!)

Mrs. D-Those are the kind of meals I like-let the kids put it all together! And if you can put salsa on it, we'll eat it.

Melanie-I am feeling a lot better. I'm sorry I missed lunch. It's been so long since we sat with you guys.

Karen-40 Cloves Chicken? Kindred spirits! I thought we were the only ones who did stuff like that!
